Parenthood - Parts 1 & 2

Christian looked around the little hospital room that seemed to have been taken over with balloons, cards and various other 'Congratulations on your baby' gifts and artifacts. His little sister looked exhausted - even in her current slumbering state. Her dark hair was mussed and she looked positively drained.

Christian had left the rest of the family to sneak off to see his twin sister alone, without the rest of the family crowding around her. Their own father was currently on the phone to various family members informing them of the new baby.

As for the new father....he was seated on a chair beside the hospital bed where Isobel slept, holding baby Dawson in his arms. He looked just as tired as his wife, but somehow was managing to keep his eyes opening. Thirty seven hours. Tetsu had taken Rhys home twice in the time it took for the baby to finally make an appearance. When Morgan announced he was a grandfather, Tetsu's first words were "About damn time."

On the opposite side from where Reuben sat, Christian tenderly stroked some of the sweat soaked strands of hair from his sister's forehead. Brown eyes glanced over at the older male who was rocking the little boy in his arms and whispering sweet nothings to him.

"So where did the name come from?" Christian asked.

Roo glanced up and over at his brother-in-law. "David."

"He suggested it?" Which was odd, because the baby had been kept secret from everyone but the parents - even the gender. Morgan had complained more than his fair share over not being able to know the gender of his first grandchild. Reuben's own father was just delighted over it - even if he didn't show it. If David knew the gender and the name, then everyone else would know. David wasn't the type to keep something like that bottled up inside of him.

Reuben shook his head. "He's named for David. I hope to be even half the father he didn't have to be," Roo explained, brushing tender fingers over the baby boy's head. "He's got no child of his own, but for three people he's been more than a father any of us could ever ask for. I love my Dad and want to be just as good as him - but no father could ever live up to David Malone - a father that didn't have to be a father."

Even his own sister had taken a liking to David Malone. He was a natural father. "You know my Dad is going to go nuts over you not naming him Morgan."

There was a chuckle from the bed, and a pair of tired blue eyes looked up at Christian. "I'll call my son whatever I want. I'm naming him Dawson Nathan Hughes."

"Nathan?"

Izzy smiled weekly. "Because Papa Jon adds the 'Jonathan'."

Christian chuckled. "Dad is really going to whine over that."

Isobel smiled as she tried to sit up in the bed. "I'll let him name the next one."

At that, Reuben looked over at her with wide eyes. "More!?"

-------

Morgan Hearst had fallen asleep on the sofa. He'd been marking papers all day on the warm summer afternoon and had taken a short break that resulted in being a long nap. Tetsu had taken Rhys to the park which meant the apartment was empty apart from the drama professor and Romeo who had made himself comfortable in his little basket beside the television. The radio was on, playing some of Morgan's old CDs.

While he was sleeping, he didn't notice Tetsu and their little boy returning home from the park. Spotting him sleeping on the sofa, Tetsu cleared away the scattered papers and folded them neatly on the coffee table, all the while muttering to Rhys about how "Morgan was a lazy and very messy man." Planting a kiss to his forehead in a display of affection, Tetsu went to the kitchen to start on lunch for the evening.

Rhys, who found watching Tetsu preparing food something rather boring climbed down from his stool and wandered into the living room. Looking to his slumbering father, the three year old reached up to tug on the glasses the man was still wearing. Once he managed to extract them from his father's face (poking him in the eye several times and once in the nose), Rhys held the strange eyewear up to his own eyes.

Morgan rarely ever wore glasses, except when reading. It was rare he wore them around Rhys, which was why the little boy was now fascinated by the things. Twisting them in his hands, them seemed rather inflexible.

When Tetsu finally noticed Rhys was missing, it was a very cross looking Morgan that brought him back, carrying the boy in his arms. Blue eyes fell onto the Asian man at the kitchen counter. "I woke up to the words 'Oopsies, Daddy'."

"Why's that?"

Keeping one arm around Rhy's waist, the boy's legs wrapped around Morgan's waist, the older man held up his now broken pair of glasses. Rhys looked highly embarrassed at what he had done, but was trying very hard to hide his laughter behind his small hands. Glancing from the boy to his love, Morgan rolled his eyes.

"They're only glasses, Morgan."

"My only pair."

"Well, that's your fault for only owning one pair."

Sighing, Morgan shook his head and looked to his son. "At least you said sorry."

Rhys smiled, nodding his head several times. "You looked stupits anyways."
