Battle

They had managed to keep it secret for all of...three days.

And then Wednesday found out.

And then the entire town knew. Even people that had no clue who these people called "Ewwie and Sam" were had been informed that these two entities had been told. Wednesday obviously couldn't keep it quiet, and even told Siran, of all people. Of all the people that the two men really didn't want knowing withouth them telling her; it was Siran.

But, now she knew, and Ewan was interested in knowing just what she felt about it. Weds had skipped out on the details of the reaction Siran had to the news, but he couldn't just waltz up to her little home that was a million miles away from civilization. He'd only ever really interacted with Siran when she was visiting Sam, and even then he'd really just left the pair alone. She was Sam's friend really, not his.

However, with the chance to randomly come across here while lurking in the town square was not one he was going to pass up easily. He wouldn't have noticed her - the way she curled in on herself while she walked along made her practically invisible among the crowds around her - if not for the prickle of her power imprinting on his DNA. Unlike most powers that he mimiced, Siran's was one of those that affected him a little differently. He didn't mimic it, but neither was he affected by it. He just sort of knew if she was near.

Hopping up off the bench he was lounging on, the mohawked male trotted up to the young woman who was weighed down with bags. "Want a hand, Siran?"

What Ewan wasn't expecting was the look she gave him as the small woman lifted her head.

He grinned sheepishly. "Heh, was only offering you some help. No need to be hating on me," he said, holding up his hands in defence. Siran was a sweet, little thing. He never expected her to be the type to glare daggers. The grin fell as he rubbed the back of his neck, eyes falling down to the side. "Unless this hate is mainly for what Weds said to you the other day..."

"I'm busy, Ewan. Can you please just let me be on my way?" She didn't look as evil as she had a few moments ago, but she wasn't in a very impressed mood.

"I know you're not feeling very happy with me right now, but how about I buy you a coffee and offer you a comprimise, or something?" he flashed her a charming grin, and before Siran could protest, she was bustled off by the other sage twin into a little coffee shop out of the way from the main street.

She sat there in the seat, hunched up, fingers wrapped around the cream coloured mug of coffee. She wasn't going to look up at the man sitting opposite her. It was taking her all not to let her powers get out of control. Luckily, Ewan had picked an almost empty place. The only people inside save for themselves and the lone staff member was an old couple.

"Get this, right, when I came here - under duress - I didn't really think on where I was going to stay. I really wasn't going to stay at all, you know," he began, stirring his drink. "But Weds didn't want to leave, and I guess I liked it here. Weds had moved on from Aunt Jenny's and was living with Sam - or whatever she was doing there. He just upped and offered me a place to crash too."

"I don't see what this has to really do with anything, Ewan."

He grinned. "Think of it as getting the ball rolling. He offered me a job, and I was grateful. I hadn't thought much beyond anything, really. I didn't think of anything happening between us. Yeah, Sam was cute - really hot - but I'm only nineteen, Siran. What could I possibly offer him?"

"You obviously offer him something."

Ewan nibbled on his bottom lip and leaned over the table, moving closer to the glum-looking Sira. "Do you know how many chances you've had? You've had Cassiel, Jung, and a few others I've met here. But Sam was always there. Sam was the one I ended up being near for longer."

That was what she couldn't be for him. Just simply being near.

"Don't look like that, Siran," Ewan snapped. "Don't you go inwardly blaming that power of yours. I spend every day thinking that I might come across someone with a deadly power, and I won'thave a clue how to control it. Anyone could get caught in it, too. But I don't hide a million miles away from people."

"Its not the same.."

"No, you can practice control. I can't control what I don't know I'll never have. You can learn to be around people." The grin was back in place and he lounged back in the seat. "I have an Uncle who has this friend who was always insecure about herself. She never thought she could be attractive, or wanted. She didn't have many friends, but she had this one guy she adored. He liked her too, but there was something keeping them apart. This guy thought my Uncle would be better for her. He was there for her, and was really what she deserved - even if he was a little rugged around the edges - but my Uncle wasn't the one she wanted, this other guy was." He paused, unsure if he was making any sense at all. "Basically, what I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't hide away. Love who you are, and maybe he'll see you for what you want him to see you as."

"So, what you're saying is you want me to try and take Sam away from you?"

The grin on Ewan's face flashed brighter. "Exactly! Fight me for him! Yeah, he's picked me now, but will he always choose me if you're there as an option? Like that guy found out with the girl, just because you think someone is better for them, doesn't mean they're going to choose them. If you love Sam, then tell him. Show him."

"But..." Siran couldn't beleive what she was hearing.

"Yeah, I might get hurt along the way, but that Uncle of mine always said, the path to happiness is paved with broken hearts."
