A.N. I forget the age difference between Sam and Ewan. I think its only three years. It can easilly be changed if I'm wrong x)
Although TIME BENDS TO MY WILL!
P.S. I failed at writing something sexy for your birthday, Cali, so instead you get cute.
There was a playground near his great-uncle's apartment where all the local children came and played. His great-uncle Raleigh had brought him to this place for years. Ewan and his twin sister had made quite a few friends in the playground and were often asked for whenever Raleigh or Elliot were spotted without them. Some days Zak brought Asher along, and Lake would join them with Tatyana and Luka. Some of the kids made fun of Luka for his accent and the fact he was always so nervous. Wednesday and Ewan always stuck up for him. Some of the bigger kids were scared of Wednesday. She'd headbutted one bully when she was five.
Seven year old Ewan sat on the swing set, using the swinging motion of his legs to swing higher and higher. So lost in concentration he barely heard his sister yelling up at him.
"Ewwie!"
Dragging his heels in the sand, Ewan slowed down and loked at his twin curiously. She had her hands on her hips and an excited look on her face. "Sammy is here!"
Sammy - or Samson Porter - was one of the older kids that lived nearby. The Sage twins had met him while they were still toddlers. Samsom had been at the playground with his mother and knowing the woman, Raleigh and Elliot sat with her while she watched her son playing. Wednesday was desperate to rush off and play too; while Ewan remained resigned about everything going on around him. Raleigh fretted over letting them loose in what could potentially be a dangerous place for little children, but Elliot had persuaded him to let them play. Ravenna had asked her son to keep an eye on them.
Wednesday seemed set on doing everything herself whenever the older boy offered to help her. Ewan just hung around on the ground, shaking his head mutely whenever Samson asked if he wanted to go and play on anything. Over the years though, Ewan had become more and more accustomed to the playground. His favourite thing to play on was the swings. Samson was the only person in the entire world that could push him the highest. This therefore made Samson his hero.
Samson was ten now, but he still came to play.
"Weally?" he asked, still sitting on the softly swaying swing. "Sth...Sss...S-aammy?"
Wednesday nodded her head furiously. "We're all playing, you should come and play too!" she grabbed her twin's hand and dragged him over to where the group of children had gathered.
Tatyana stood at the forefront of the group. "So we're going to play something AWESOME!" she announced, flipping one of her pigtails over her shoulder. "Its called WEDDINGS!"
"That's booooooorrriiinnng, 'Yana," announced one of the children.
"No its not!" she called out. "My Daddy says its a magical thing! It bonds two friends together forever."
"But none of us want to get married," called out another of the children.
Tatyana pulled her lips into her mouth in thought, sucking on them while she tried to think of a pair to be the main feature for their game of marriage. "Sammy! I'm sure someone will marry Sammy!" she called out, pointing out the ten year old who stood just off one side, listening in but not actively engaging. He looked shocked when he was announced, looking around the group to see what their reaction was.
"Ewwie will marry Sammy!" Wednesday called out. "He's always liked him."
"He's jus a fwend, Wedday," mumbled Ewan, looking sheepishly down at his sneakers. "And we're both boys."
Tatyana clapped her hands together in delight. "Boys can get married too," she said. "My Daddy and Dimitry are boys, but they'll get married one day, I know they will. My Mommy even says so too." she glanced over at Luka who was hovering out of the way. "Right, Luka?"
The boy nodded silently.
Tatyana called out a word none of the other children - bar Luka - understood. She did that from time to time. Dimitri was teaching her Russian and she liked to use it whenever she could. It also made her feel like it was a special language between her, Dimitri and Luka. No one else knew what they were saying; it was their secret. "So Sammy and Ewwie are going to get married!"
Ewan really didn't know what to say or what to do and so went along with the other children. When Tatyana made them stand next to one another, Samson leaned over and whispered to him "I don't mind that its you; you're nice and you're my best friend here."
Ewan swallowed the lump in his throat at those words. Samson was always so nice to him.
"Asher can sing the wedding music," Tatyana annouced. "He said his Daddy taught him the words."
Grinning proudly, the dark haired youth that was probably the oldest in the group stood before Tatyana, his hands clasped together in front of him and his head bowed. He stood like that for a few moments before throwing his head back and singing. "Here comes the bride, she's really wide! Ain't she a beauty, lets all admire her booty!"
"They're boys, Asher!" Wednesday shouted out from her spot beside her brother.
"Well I'm sorrry, Miss-it has-to-be-right, but that's the way the song is, and my Dad is never wrong - unless Mom says he is and then he's a dork."
"You're a dork."
"You were a dork first."
"NO FIGHTING!" yelled Tatyana, pushing Asher away and taking his place. "This is supposed to be a happy thing. Tell Uncle Zakky that he's a dork for not teaching you a boys version." She grinned proudly and clapped her hands together again. "Now Sammy and Ewwie - Ewwie and Sammy." She looked at Samson. "Do you take Ewwie to be your betrothed forever, never to make them cry or hurt them, cross your heart and hope to die?"
"Uhm...I do?"
"Do you mean it?
Samson frowned, but not wanting to invite the wrath of the younger girl, he nodded. "Yeah, I do."
The girl turned to Ewan, "Do you take Sammy to be your betrothed forever, never to make them cry or hurt them, cross your heart and hope to die?"
Ewan nodded, eyes wide and he fidgeted. His sister nudged him and he barked out "I do."
"I now announced you married! You have to kiss now!"
Several 'ewwww's rose through the crowd of gathered children. Ewan's eyes were focused on the ground and he saw Samson's sneakers move into his vision. "You have to look up, Ewwie," the older boy said. Doing as he was told, Ewan looked up and Samson kissed him quick and on the very corner of his mouth.
Tatyana clicked her tongue disapprovingly. "That was barely a peck."
"Kissing is not something I go around doing," Samson told her. "I played your game, don't get fussy."
The girl pouted at him, but didn't press on. Instead, she turned to the crowd of children still watching intently. "now lets marry someone else! Who wants to marry Asher?"
There was a shout of disapproval from said boy and he took off across the playground. With a yell, Tatyana raced after him. Soon a game of chase began and many of the children joined in. Ewan remained where he was, brows creased in thought.
"When I get married properly, I hope its not like this," Samson said.
"I don' know if I will get mawwied," responded Ewan, still feeling a little nervous and a little silly for being nervous. Samson was one of his close friends. The older boy had always been so nice to him.
"If you do, promise me you'll invite me."
Ewan stared at him with wide eyes. "You'll still be my fwend?"
Samson smiled brightly at him. "I'll always be your friend, Ewwie."
About thirteen (I think) years later
Ewan sat on the bench, looking out over the playground while the children raced around playing, screaming and generally just be children. One day he'd come here with the baby that was growing inside Jung. He'd be the proud parent helping the giggling little child climb across the monkey bars. With a child that was his racing around he wouldn't look so out of place as he did now. The playground wasn't too far from the repair shop, within walking distance.
Ewan opened and closed the fingers of his right hand, staring at the blast of purple fire that flashed everytime he quickly uncurled his fingers. Someone nearby had quite the interesting power. It wasn't a flame that burned with heat. Infact it felt cold whenever he managed to hold the flame steady and constant. It gave off a cool chill rather than a blast of warmth like normal fire. He wondered who the power belonged to. There were actually quite a few gifted people at the playground, but this power was the most interesting to look at.
Looking up from his hand, he caught a little boy of about seven or so looking straight at him. The lad grinned and held out both his hands, the purple flame bursting to life just above his palms. His mother obviously noticed him showing off, because a woman yelled out over the sounds of the shouts of children. Looking scorned, the boy stopped his power and raced over to his mother.
Suddenly a new set of sounds joined the jumble of voices. Plants. Something in his brain clicked, snapping up knowledge of a power he'd been developing within himself. Most powers came and went, leaving barely a mark within him. One power, however, he now had quite an intimate knowledge of. he even had quite the intimate knowledge of the person who the power belonged to.
"Didn't think I'd find you here," Sam said as he came up behind the bench Ewan was sprawled on. "You don't seem the type to lurk in playgrounds."
"I used to love the swings," he responded, tilting his head back to look up at the older male. "I was remembering the ones near my great-uncle Raleigh's old apartment."
Sam chuckled and moved around to join Ewan on the bench. Ewan moved his legs to let him sit down, only to place them on his lap once he'd settled. "You used to yell at me to push you higher. Some days my arms would ache so much."
"Which is why they're so muscular now," Ewan replied with a smirk. "You were the only one who could push me so high though. Weds' was always freakishly strong. I was scared she'd push me into space."
"Do you still keep in touch with some of the others? Raleigh and Elliot were close friends with their parents, but not so much your parents."
"Well, you know where Luka is - as for the others, no not really. I should though. I hear Asher is in a band and Tatyana is practically famous. The others I've sort of lost contact with."
"That's quite sad," Sam said, stroking his hand down Ewan's leg. "We used to have so much fun playing together."
Ewan looked over at Sam's face. "Do you remember one game Tatyana made us play?"
"She made us play a lot of games, Ewan"
"One in particular. I thought it was silly at the time - I mean I didn't even have a crush on you or anything. You were awesome and everything, but I never really thought about people in that way when I was a kid."
Sam laughed as he remembered the day. "We got married."
Ewan fidgeted on the bench, nibbling on his lower lip somewhat nervously. "You know, we never had a divorce. Does that mean we're still married?"
Sam chuckled. "I don't think it counted back then, but if you put it like that, then yeah; we're still married."
Ewan grinned, sat up and leaned over to place a kiss on Sam's cheek. "I'll have to thank Tatyana for marrying us then."
